The new WRU site has been designed to be a flagship for the Welsh national sport of Rugby, with news on all competitions from the International side down to the grass roots. In addition the site will carry live audio commentary of major games played by the WRU and member teams, in association with the BBC. The Millennium Stadium site has up-to-date information on all the events being held at the stadium with links to buy tickets where available. As part of the launch the WRU are pleased to announce that for the first time they will be selling tickets online for the Lloyds TSB Six Nations Championship. Tickets for games where available can be purchased from the Millennium Stadium site www.cardiffstadium.co.uk. The final part of the network, the WRU Intranet site, is being built to improve speed and reduce the costs of communicating with the 231 member clubs.
Guy Williams, Finance Director of the WRU, commenting on the launch today said:
“We are committed to providing the best online experience for Welsh Rugby fans from around the world and we believe that our new site demonstrates to supporters our commitment in delivering those services. In particular the launch of online audio broadcasts will allow fans from around the world to experience first hand the unique atmosphere of a Welsh rugby game. An important factor in our decision on our site was to choose a solution that kept control and ownership with the WRU. We found the ideal partners for this approach to be LSsport / sportcentric. Whilst they designed the initial site, the site moving forward is controlled entirely by the WRU – right down to changing the layouts and menus.”
Leo Mindel, Founding Director of LSsport, commenting on the launch today said:
“We at LSsport are delighted to be associated with the WRU, and in particular delivering their network of official sites. We believe that the brand power of the WRU will help to drive the profitability of their site through sponsorship and e-commerce. The whole network design has only been possible by utilising the power of the sportcentric software in delivering the sites.”
Paul Nelson, Founder & CEO of sportcentric, commented:
“It is exciting for sportcentric to have such a forward thinking Union, guided by LSsport, take full advantage of the sportcentric system, for both its public websites and Club Network. Having the WRU’s non-technical staff in direct control of all aspects of the site reduces operating costs and improves the depth and immediacy of the content. We look forward to the WRU adopting new features on a regular basis, as we develop them.”
