BEDDAU 7 PONTYPOOL 50

The First Division side ran in seven tries and were 24-0 ahead at the interval in a game superbly controlled by their former Wales full back Byron Hayward. There was some consolation for Beddau with a second half try from Mark Gronow which Gareth Hopkins converted

BONYMAEN 16 TONDU 8

Bonymaen overturned their league form against Tondu, who had beaten them twice already this season, to pick up a plum tie in the seventh round. Jason Davies was the home hero with all his side’s points as they hit back from an 8-6 deficit after 63 minutes.

CARMARTHEN ATH 0 CARMARTHEN QUINS 43

A crowd of more than 3,000 turned out to watch this local derby and they saw the Quins turn in a thoroughly propfessional display. Among their six tries was a hat-trick for 19-year-old student Owain Rowlands.

HIRWAUN 0 BLACKWOOD 13

The home side battled bravely in the mud, but a try in first-half injury time by hooker Kevin Lewis stered the First Division outfit to victory. The rest of the points came from the boot of Martin Jones.

LLANDOVERY 15 EBBW VALE 43

The Drovers swept into a 15-6 half-time lead against the PARKER PEN SHIELD quarter-fianlists thanks to first use of a strong wind. An interception try by Tracy Lewis gave the home side a great start and there was a second try before the break from scrum half Jamie Roberts. A Kevin Ellis try for Vale early in the second half, the the unerring boot of Gareth Cull eventually gave the Welsh/Scottish League team the lead and some breathing space.

NARBERTH 27 MERTHYR 5

The Division Two leaders were in rousing form and ran in three great tries in the second half after taking an 8-3 lead with them into that period. Scrum half Chris MacDonald grabbed the home side’s first-half try, which Aled Davies converted, and wing Jonathan Whitticombe grabbed two in the second half. Davies got the final try.

NEWBRIDGE 18 ABERYSTWYTH 6

The sin-binning of Aber scrum half Gwion James proved the turning point in this game as Newbridge took advantage of their extra man and worked Martin Ridley over for a try. Jason Williams converted to make it 10-0 at the break. Gareth Roberts kicked two penalties for the visitors in the second half, but a late push-over try by replacement back row man Damion Cooper sealed victory for the First Division side.

WHITLAND 9 ABERAVON 27

No surprises here as the First Division pace setters. Daran Griffiths helped himself to two tries for the Wizards and Barry maddocks and Mark Davies also crossed the Whitland line. All Whitland’s points came from the boot of Daniel Griffiths with three penalties.
