Women’s Six Nations: Wales V Scotland

After disappointing performances against France and Spain, Wales showed encouraging signs of improvement against England a fortnight ago and will be hoping that they can end their Six Nations on a high.
Wales have been dogged by injuries since the start of their campaign and more changes have been made to the squad. Catrin Edwards, who had a superb game against England, starts at prop with Kath Lenaghan on the bench still recovering from a shoulder injury. Jackie Morgan plays at hooker as Jamie Kift struggles with a knee injury that could make her doubtful for the World Cup next month.
Fly Half Awen Thomas regains her place with Rhian Wilmott out due to a recurring back problem. The Scrum Half shirt goes to Ronnie Owens who seems to be back on form with Kerry Jenkins playing for the ‘A’ squad and Cath Walkley on the bench. Flanker Angharad Phillips is promoted from the ‘A’ squad but does not start.
Caernarfon player Kate Jones, who received her first cap against England a fortnight ago, starts at Full Back as Naomi Thomas is in plaster with a suspected stress fracture in her ankle. UWIC Winger Hayley Baxter takes a place on the bench and will be hoping to gain her second cap following her debut against England.
It will be a memorable game on Sunday with it being the last 6 Nations match for several of the senior players as they are likely to retire after the World Cup. It will also be the last home game for Head Coach John Williams as he intends to move on after the World Cup in Barcelona this summer.
Sunday will be a festival of Women’s rugby at Llanelli, with the U16’s and the ‘A’ squad playing in the morning followed by the full international kicking off at 2.30pm.
Under 16’s and Senior Citizens free. Adults £5. Season ticket holders £1. Tickets are available on the gate.
