Charvis To Lead Wales In South Africa

Pontypridd – who face Sale Sharks in the PARKER PEN SHIELD final at The Kassam Stadium, Oxford, on 26 May – provide all five of the uncapped tourists, forwards Richard Parks, Michael Owen, Robert Sidoli, Mefin Davies and Gethin Jenkins. There are also international recalls for Steve Williams (London Irish) and Swansea’s Ben Evans.
National Manager Alan Phillips said: “The fact that so many clubs have been vying for championships and cup honours has meant that the domestic game has had an extra competitive edge during the last few weeks.
“That’s been hugely encouraging and it has meant that a larger than normal pool of players have put themselves in the frame for selection.
“The rugby played has showed a marked improvement in both pace and skill and its what we want to see on a far more regular basis. A good blend of experience and youth has forced its way through and going to South Africa will be a wonderful opportunity for them.
“Injuries and illness prevented the likes of Scott Quinnell; Nathan Budgett; Andy Moore; Nathan Bonner-Evans; Mark Jones and Spencer John from travelling. Others have been left at home so that they can rest and begin next season with added enthusiasm, fitness, strength and power levels.”
