The girls travelled down to Morriston knowing that it was the last time that these two will meet at this age group, also knowing that Morriston have not been defeated in the 3 seasons that they have been formed.

Cwmbran gave an immediate indication of how they were going to proceed and the first 20 minutes were spent mainly in the Morriston half where the Cwmbran girls kept them pinned down with some immense pressure.

The Cwmbran Scrum half Rachel Bond was so quick on opposition scrums and bravely charged down no fewer than 4 kicks from Morriston’s international Outside half Michaela Reed. Rachel was very unlucky on at least one of them not to score, the ball just eluding her over the dead ball line. Her exploits won her the player back of the match.
Morriston, very much against the run of play, kicked out of their half, and a lucky break out resulted in the first try of the game. Undaunted the Cwmbran pack struck back and some determined driving through a maul saw Cwmbran’s forward of the game, Steph Turnbull go over for the equaliser under a pile of opposition forwards.

The second half saw Morriston galvanise themselves for the onslaught of the pressure being exerted by Cwmbran.
They are not champions for nothing but their winning try from their winger was a result of a missed tackle in an otherwise flawless Cwmbran display.
The Cwmbran girls lifted their game and every one of them played their part, even injury to key players could not kerb their commitment.

No one could have complained if the match had ended in a draw, but the Morriston girls can take a pride in that they could dig deep into that 3 years of experience and weather the tremendous storm thrown at them by the Cwmbran girls.

After the game, there were tears from some of the girls in the changing rooms, not because they almost became the only team to defeat the Welsh champions, but because this was the last game that they would all play together, eight of them moving up to the senior game next season.

With similar numbers of Morriston girls also making that transition, those present could be forgiven for taking a pride in the days proceedings, no future match will ever have such commitment and passion behind it, it was history in the making!
