New Look Llanelli
It’s still Scarlet, it will still breath fear into the hearts of the opposition and it still represents one of the most successful and famous rugby club’s in the World – but next season Llanelli will compete in Wales and Europe wearing a different jersey.
The new strip, produced by Kooga, is embroidered with the famous Stradey Park Sospan, has white piping picking out the wearers body shape and a flash of blue designed to show underneath the arms of players in full flight, with last year’s blue collar now a blaze of Scarlet.
Llanelli were desperate to retain the traditional feel of their kit, whilst producing a shirt that will look good both on and off the pitch.
“It’s a more modern design, but the Jersey is still unmistakably Scarlet,” said Kooga managing director Bill Newton.
“The piping design is something we’ve been seeing on the catwalks this year and we are always conscious that, whilst this is first and foremost a world famous rugby shirt, fans still need to wear it and look good during their leisure time.
“It’s also terrific value for money this year with every kit individually embroidered with the gold and red Sospan and 320grams worth of Scarlet cloth coming in eight different sizes.”
The shirt will retail at £48 and will be sold for the first time at the Scarlets festival when Llanelli play Leeds Tykes on 17 August, which is also centre Neil Boobyer’s testimonial game.
After that, the initial order of 10,000 will be distributed in high street stores throughout Great Britain and Europe with over 10% of sales expected in France.
“The Sospan makes the shirt particularly unique this season,” Llanelli commercial manager Ross Davies.
“We thought it was about time we paid homage to that particular tradition. Sospan Fach (Little Saucepan) is the club song and we have had two saucepans stuck to the top our posts ever since Llanelli was a major tin-plate producer and saucepans where everyone’s stock and trade.
“We sold the final one of last year’s 20,000 replica kits well before the season end and expect this shirt to more than equal those impressive figures during its 2 year live span.”
Shirts will not be on sale before 17 August, but after that date fans can buy online at www.scarlets.co.uk or by calling the club shop at 01554 783900.
