Canadian Coach In Confident Mood

Canadian coach Dave Clark says Wales “holds no fears” for his team in the build-up to Saturday’s Test at the Millennium Stadium.
The Australian has named 10 European-based players in his 22-strong side for the Test at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, including Welsh-based players Rod Snow (Newport), Jon Thiel (Bridgend), John Tait (Cardiff) and Jamie Cudmore (Llanelli). As well, hooker and captain Pat Dunkley and centre Nik Witkowski have had stints for Swansea.
“Our front row have played in Wales and they know what to expect,” Clark said today.
“What they’re going to face on Saturday holds no fears for them and that goes for the rest of the team as well.”

Canada go into the Test without experienced lock Al Charron, whose father passed away this week, and rugged Cardiff backrower Dan Baugh, who couldn’t get insurance against serious injury.
“They’re a big loss, but not as big a loss as they might have been in previous years,” Clark said.
“In Phil Murphy we have a No 8 rated the best in Europe, while our No 10 Jared Murphy is probably the most prolific, consistent goal-kicker in world rugby.
“He kicked 34 straight in our World Cup qualifying games and has an accuracy rate of 94 percent, which is tremendous.
“We have solid centres who work well together and small but fast wingers who will handle anything thrown at them. Not many people will have heard of our No 12, John Cannon, but he’s a strong, courageous centre.
“We have a team than can play the tough, uncompromising Canadian game of rugby or a wide, expansive game.
“Wales simply don’t hold the fears of days gone by.”

Asked if the powerful pack and world-class goal-kicker meant the Canadians would play 10-man rugby, Clark looked astonished.
“I’m Australian, mate. We were taught to jam 10-man rugby where the sun doesn’t shine.
“Which could be the Millennium Stadium,” he said, looking at the teeming Cardiff rain with a grin.
