Llanelli vice captain Vernon Cooper was born in nearby Morriston, and played for Ystradgynlais before joining the Scarlets – he has represented Llanelli on over 170 occasions – scoring five tries.
Cooper has represented Wales at under 18, under 19, under 21 and ‘A’ levels, and is now elevated to the first team.
‘It is a dream come true really,’ said Cooper.
‘As soon as you pick up a ball as a kid you dream about running out at the National Stadium for Wales.
‘I was the only uncapped player left in the squad so it’s been a long two and a half weeks, but Steve said I would be involved at some stage. Now I just have to try and take this opportunity.’
