Bridgend edged out Bath 28-26 in the first leg their PARKER PEN CHALLENGE CUP round 2 tie at the Brewery field, and Llanelli beat Sale by 30-19 at Heywood Road.

At Bridgend, a late penalty goal from Craig Warlow took his points total to a lucky 13, and gave the Ravens the victory with the last kick of a highly entertaining match.

Bridgend captain Gareth Thomas received the man of the match award, after he helped himself to two tries, and was at the centre of much of Bridgend’s attacking play. Prop Christian Loader scored Bridgend’s other try.

For Bath, Chris Malone scored 16 points, but missed a crucial penalty kick at the death that would have sealed victory for the visitors.

Bath’s other tries came from former Wales under 21 international Andy Williams, and full back Iain Balshaw.

And Llanelli left England with the impressive scalp of Sale Sharks.

Llanelli tries came from Robin McBryde, Martyn Madden, Garan Evans, and Scott Quinnell.

The Sharks’ tries came from Vaughan Going, Jim Thorp, and Mark Cueto, but it was Wales outside half Stephen Jones who made the difference, his two penalty goals and two conversions helped the Scarlets to an 11 point victory, and with that keeping their quarter-final qualifying hopes alive in the process.
