Wales Under-21’s Lose Out

England gained their second win in four meetings with Wales at under-21 A level when they pulled away to gain three second-half tries at Newbury on Wednesday.
Wales had won the first meeting at Newbridge in January 2000 with England then winning in a thriller at Bridgwater and drawing last season at Pontypridd.
In the first half it was Wales who scored the only try through right wing Andrew Jones of Narberth, but England full back, the aptly-named Andrew Frost (Gloucester), landed three penalty goals to make it 9-5 at the interval.
Wales used six replacements – five of them in the secnd half – and England brought all their seven on in the last quarter. However, the England tries came from players who had started the match with centres Tom Allen (Harlequins) and Danny Hipkiss (Leicester) scoring, along with back-row forward Ben Woods (Newcastle). Frost converted twice.
England were coached by three former internationals – Cardiff-born Nigel Redman, former Bassaleg schoolboy Jonathan Callard and fly half Paul Grayson.
