Bater Stays At Swansea
Rising star James Bater has followed mentors Colin Charvis and Scott Gibbs by committing himself to the new Swansea-Neath province for next season.
The emerging All Whites talent had attracted attention from a number of the rival provinces hoping to lure the 23-year-old away from St Helen’s amid the cash-crisis at the club.
But he last night ended that speculation by insisting he was staying with the West Glamorgan region.
“There were various options but I’m pretty settled at Swansea and even though I haven’t signed anything yet, I have pretty much made up my mind to stay,” said Bater.
“Seeing guys like Colin (Charvis) and Scott (Gibbs) agree to stay at the province did have a big influence on my decision as I have learned a lot from them over the last few years.
“But it also proves that we will have a strong squad next season with them in and I want to be part of a successful side who are winning games and tournaments.
“I’m excited about next season and getting back into full competition because it’s been a disappointing season with Swansea, especially with all the stuff going on off the field.”
