Aberavon have re-taken the lead of Division One from Pontypool after their 37-13 victory over Whitland on Monday afternoon at the Talbot Athletic Field.

Aberavon have a three-point lead, but Pontypool lead 176-152 on tries and if both clubs, as is expected, win their next two league matches, then they will meet for the title in Aberavon, on a date yet to be fixed.

Pontypool have to travel away to Beddau and Rumney, whilst Aberavon are also away – at Tredegar and Blackwood. Pooler wing star Len Woodard has taken the overall league best to 37 already this season and fly half Byron Hayward has rocketed to a league best of 446 points with Jamie Davies of Aberavon on 423, both having the previous best set by Stuart Harries of Llandovery last season.

Division Two will see two great battles – one between Carmarthen Athletic and Llangennech for the title and one between five clubs for a top-five finish.

Carmarthen have taken over from Llangennech in top spot by one point with both clubs having three matches to play. Meanwhile Brynmawr, Maesteg, UWIC, Llantwit Fardre and Merthyr battle for the places.

Division 6 North – Bala.

Division 7 West – Cefneithin. Division 7 Central – Cwmgwrach.

Newport Saracens gained the two points they needed to win 5 East by winning last Sunday 41-22 against Tredegar Ironsides on the RTB (Ebbw Vale) ground, with still two matches to play.

Still outstanding are the titles for Premiership and Divisions 1, 2, 3 East, 4 East, 4 West, 5 West, 6 East and 7 East.

Tonight (Tuesday) – Pontyberem v Tenby Utd (4 West), Loughor v Gowerton (5 West) and Llandaff North v Blaenavon (7 East).
