Wales 2003 Tour Squad Announced

Bath Rugby back row forward Gareth Delve is one of three uncapped players selected for Wales’ two-Test tour to Australia and New Zealand next month.

Delve, who has been out with a knee injury for much of last season, Neath prop Adam Jones and Leeds Tykes back row forward Alix Popham are the uncapped trio in the 32-player party announced today by Wales coach Steve Hansen.

Cardiff-born Delve, who began playing rugby with the Rumney Mini section, has played through all the national levels.

He captained Wales at under 16, Senior Schools and under 19 levels and has been capped at under 21, as a replacement against France in the Grand Slam winning side this season.

Llanelli hooker Robin McBryde, ruled out of the Six Nations Championship by a broken toe, returns as one of four tour squad captains named by Hansen. The others are Cardiff flanker Martyn Williams, Swansea back row forward Colin Charvis and Llanelli fly half Stephen Jones. Also back from injury is double broken arm victim, Pontypridd centre Sonny Parker.

Llanelli wing Garan Evans, who has been in sparkling form for the Principality Cup winners, is back in the international fold after a five-year absence since winning his sole cap against South Africa in 1998.

Popham, who joined Leeds from Newport, has been capped at A and under 21 level while Jones has represented Wales at under 19 and under 21 – part of an all-Neath front row at under 21 level.
