Despite beig held to 13-13 at half-time, Wales finally managed to overturn their Scottish counterparts in a stop-start encounter at Henley.

Two tries from Bridgend centre David Bishop and further touchdowns from new cap and scrum half Ricky Richards and Cardiff outside half Nicky Robinson, added to four conversions and three penalties from the boot of the Cardiff pivot were enough to keep the number 4 seeds hopes high of progressing further in this tournament.

Ricky Richards went over first for Wales and his try was converted by Nicky Robinson who notched up a match tally of 22 points.

But Scotland came back with a try from lock Mark Rennie’s try which was improved by the Scotland outside half Alistair Warnock. The number 10s swapped penalties before the break.

Bridgend’s David Bishop claimed a try and Robinson two penalties in the second half but with Warnock slotting three penalties for Scotland, Wales were leading by a narrow margin of 23-19 with five minutes to go and only two late tries from Bishop and Robinson put Wales clear.

Wales play Argentina at Iffley Road (Oxford University ground) at 3pm on Tuesday, followed by a crunch encounter with South Africa at Newbury next Saturday.

Wales scorers:
Tries: Ricky Richards, David Bishop (2), Nicky Robinson
Cons: N Robinson (4)
Pens: N Robinson (3)
