Cliff-diving prop Adam Jones revealed his adventurous side as he spoke to the Welsh Rugby Union’s official website ahead of Saturday’s clash with Italy.
The Neath-Swansea Ospreys forward obviously has a taste for the high-life given his antics in the sea off St David’s on Carmarthenshire coast.
But whether Steve Hansen will throw the 22-year-old prop in the deep end for the crunch Pool D match remains to be seen.
Jones has come on as a replacement in both World Cup games so far as he looks to establish himself in a future all-Ospreys front-row alongside fellow youngsters Huw Bennett and Adam Jones.
“That’s certainly the plan at the Ospreys as we could be playing together for the next ten years and it would be great for that to be the case one day with Wales,” said Jones.
“But I think Gethin (Jenkins) has been playing really well, especially in the Canada game against Rod Snow, so I can’t complain that I haven’t started a game at the World Cup.
“I’m just so chuffed to be here and involved. Obviously I want to play but six months ago I never thought I had a chance of being here.
“Perhaps Gethin and the rest of the boys felt they didn’t quit perform as they would have wanted against Tonga.
“Tonga are known for being a physical side and put in a lot of big hits but at the end of the day, we won the game and that’s what counts at the World Cup.
“I’m sure Italy will be more of the same. I know the boys who were involved would love to get one back on them for beating us in February but I think everyone is professional enough to realise they have got a job to do on Saturday rather than only thinking about settling scores.”
And as for his rock jumping?
“It’s great fun. We go swimming at St David’s, climb up the rocks and jump into the sea. Sometimes you get up to about 40 feet. You really feel the adrenaline.”
