Results in the latest wru.co.uk poll show the majority of users were happy with the 41-10 victory over Canada in the World Cup opener.

At the close of the poll, approximately 36 hours after the end of the match, 37 per cent (396 votes) had given Wales a seven out of ten pass mark.

Five per cent of the recorded vote thought Wales’s performance was perfect, giving them 10 out of 10. And just eight per cent rated Wales at four or less.

The figures are in marked contrast to Wales’s opening game of this season’s Six Nations championship. Wales were defeated 30-22 by Italy in Rome much to the disgust of the Welsh public, over 40 per cent of the voters rated Wales at less than four out of ten at that stage.

Progress certainly, despite handling errors than can sympathetically be attributed to a lack of match sharpness, Wales broadly impressed.

The following messages sent into the wru.co.uk fanzone are typical of many.

“The Welsh team had a good performance with a lot of room for improvement. I think the scrummage look good once it settled down and Iestyn Thomas will struggle to regain his place. Cooper for me did not perform at his best and may struggle to hold off Peel for the No 9 shirt. Iestyn Harris was World Class and if Sweeney can get his touch kicking sorted we could be very dangerous to some team although there is still a lot to work on.” Neil Johanson

“Well done. Keep it up. Go Wales! Go for it. Just remember, you don’t only have critics, but also supporters, and we enjoy seeing the critics silenced and made to eat their words. Just keep dishing it up. CYMRU AM BYTH!!!!” Gerland Bath
