Abercynon had knocked Merthyr off the top of Division Two East a week earlier, as they now repeated the act against new leaders Hirwaun and these two wins have taken the ‘Cynon’, with a full side of home-grown talent, to the top themselves.

Two West leaders are Corus, who look good for a few more weeks at least in front. They saw off Tonmawr by 32-5 and along with Fleur de Lys, who have played only twice in the East, are the only unbeaten Division Two clubs.

Every club in Three East has now lost with Newport HSOB’s win at Abercarn giving them the lead, while in the West Pontyberem and Kidwelly share the lead. In the South-East it was Gilfach Goch’s day with a derby win at nearby Tonyrefail, while unbeaten Treherbert were without a match and in the South-West it was a fifth win in as many matches for both Maesteg Quins and Bryncoch.

In Division Four East, Bargoed lead after defeating Blaina 12-6, while in the West there are still three clubs unbeaten as Llandybie and Pembroke Dock Quins won at home and Loughor gained a 25-21 success at Betws. In the South-East only Dowlais have not lost, but they had to work hard to defeat lowly Cowbridge by 18-17 and in the South-West Cwmgors defeated a battling Alltwen 31-26 to gain their fifth successive victory. Old Penarthians crossed over Lavernock Road to surprise near-neighbours Penarth by 27-18 at the Athletic Field.

Ruthin stayed at the top of Four North after turning back Dollgellau by 24-9 and Llangefni’s win at Wrexham leave them with a 100 per cent record, while Bala still have not won, yet get closer each week – this time losing 12-10 at Rhyl.

In Five North, Denbigh’s 27-24 win at Welshpool give them the lead, yet Colwyn Bay are unbeaten, as their match at Bangor was postponed.

Five East leaders are Trinant, who beat Usk 45-22, while Machen closed up after beating Gwernyfed 28-17, while in the West every club has lost at least once with Cefneithin leading following a 19-12 win at Furnace. In the South-East Llantwit Major head the division after winning a kicking contest at Llandaff by 12-6 and in the South-West, Resolven and Pontardawe stayed unbeaten after wins over Swansea Uplands and Cwmtwrch respectively.
