The Wales management are sure to pick away at every aspect of the Azzurri’s game and will doubtless have been bouyed by Canada’s success in the close forward play where Italy struggled.
But after watching the game, Phillips insists Wales will not change any of their preparations.
‘There was nothing in that game that surprised us because we know how difficult Italy are going to be, especially in the forwards where we are going to have to front up,’ he said.
‘In fact Italy will be even more dangerous opponents on Saturday because they know they were fortunate to come away with all the points against Canada.
‘There were a few signs of nerves against Canada but Italy are in a position that they are not used to, winning brings expectations and they will feel that on Saturday.
‘There is a big prize at stake on Saturday for both teams and we will treat them with every respect because they deserve it. We know Italy well enough to know we can’t underestimate them.
‘But I thought Canada did very well at really took the game to them. Canada are a very committed team and can cause anyone problems. When Josh Jackson came on he made a huge impact at the lineout.
‘However Saturday promises to be a nail-biting game.’
Meanwhile Stephen Jones was forced to sit out training yesterday due to a dead leg. The Llanelli points machine is in competition with Ceri Sweeney for the Wales number 10 jersey against Italy on Saturday and is still reckoned to be available.
