Supercross At Asda

Millennium Stadium Supercross rider Jason Rennie proved he is ‘off his trolley’ when he jumped 15 ASDA supermarket trolleys, end-to-end, in the store carpark at Cardiff Gate today.

Rennie, Wales‘ answer to Evil Knievel and double-record holder for distance motorbike jumps, will race at the Supercross event at Cardiff‘s national ground on Saturday 22 November and attempt a new Guinness record for the longest indoor jump.

The jump was originally planned to repeat Knievel’s leap over 13 buses at Wembley Staium 10 years ago, but the Guinness book of records only recognizes jumps over distance, so Rennie will leap from one end of the Stadium to the other instead.

“It’s going to be quite a close call,” said the Wrexham-born Rennie. “We will build scaffolding into the lower tier at one end of the ground for me to start my run up and roughly 140ft later I will probably end up in the stands on the other side.

“There’s a real possibility I may find myself careering around the Stadium concourses if I over shoot, but all the safety considerations will be in place.”

Rennie was joined by fellow North-Walian Neil Prince for the ASDA car-park stunts and Bridgend-born youngster Mark Jones, who is hot favourite to take the British Supercross title as well as take the Millennium Stadium leg on home turf.

“This is only my second season on the circuit, but I’m currently lying in second place and should be in the running to win it,” said the 24 year-old hot prospect from Pontycymmer, who has just signed a new sponsorship deal with Phoneparts KTM.

“I should be able to get through each of the 10-lap heats on the day and then it’s down to getting a good start in the 15-lap final.

“My whole family will be down to watch me and I hope I don’t let the supporters down as this is the only home crowd on the circuit for me.”

The Supercross event at Millennium Stadium has already sold 4,000 tickets and organisers Future West promotions are expecting a 20,000 crowd come event day – which would be the largest ever Supercross event ever held in the UK.
