120 guests including members of the WWRU National Squad will attend the unique night. Which is acclaimed as being ‘a race night with a difference.’ There are no big screen televisions and videos of races instead it involves racing six ‘specially trained’ horses across the floor which involves full audience participation.
The race meeting will see guests racing in six races from the Webb Ellis Gold Cup to the Grand Slam Chase all sponsored by Halifax Personal Loans.
This is the second major fundraiser the WWRU have hosted in the last couple of months. The WWRU Touch Rugby Tournament at the Millennium Stadium raised over £5000. It is hoped that the Race night, coupled with the prize draw on the night will generate a further £5000 towards the tour.
WWRU Business Manager Laura Oakes commented, “We are very grateful to Coral Bookmakers for their sponsorship of the event and to the Halifax for sponsoring the races. We hope that the race night will be a significant step closer to the £40,000 needed for the tour.”
Coral Bookmakers have just opened a new shop on St Mary Street in time for the Six Nations competition. Coral have released their odds for the Wales v Scotland clash and are backing the Welsh Men’s team as favourites with odds of 1:3, with Scotland to win as 9:4.
Coral District Manager Paul Maharg commented, “We are delighted to be supporting the WWRU in their fundraising efforts. Coral are always looking for new opportunities to expand our business and build relationships within the sporting community. We wish the WWRU all the best in their forthcoming Six Nations and we hope that our contribution goes a long way to making their tour a success.”
Tickets for the event are £10, which includes a buffet and are available from the WWRU and on the door.
