Glamorgan Wanderers gained their third victory in four matches by winning 27-5 on a wet and windy day at Tondu’s Pandy Park.

It was 20-0 at the interval with penalty try followed by touchdowns from No 8 Michael Grimes and hooker Tom Lambert, while Danny Jones placed a conversion and penalty. Tondu hit back with a try by wing Dean Thomas before replacement flanker Andrew Williams scored the fourth Wanderers try.

Maesteg took advantage of Llanharan having their match with Treorchy called off and now have a 12-point lead at the top though they have played four more matches than Llanharan. Maesteg opened with a rare try from evergreen tight-head prop Nigel Evans, He was followed over by wing Grant Epton with his 17th of the season and Karl Hocking scored his usual try.

Debutant Jonathan Williams, on loan from Caerphilly at full back, placed two conversions, while fly half Liam Gadd, on dual registration from Cwmavon, dropped a goal. The UWIC students fought back well and centre Aled Thomas fired over two first-half penalties to put up a fine performance against the divisional leaders.

DIVISION TWO.

Vardre won for only the third time this season in the West, but once again it was a mammoth performance as they toppled leaders Dunvant with a super show.

Centre Gareth Noble was the man of the day as he scored both tries in Vardre’s 24-17 success and Phil Evans placed four penalties and a conversion to complete our win. Also in the West, Corus had a magical 45-20 win over Bridgend Athletic; Newcastle Emlyn pulled off a 7-6 win at Cwmavon and Tonmawr won by 10-3 at Cwmllynfell.

Pencoed almost snatched a win over Felinfoel, being down 14-0 to three Jason Davies penalties and a Matthew Davies try, but hitting back with tries by wing Ken Morris and scrum half Owen Price and a Gareth David conversion, before Felinfoel won it 21-12 with a penalty try, converted by centre Gareth Rees.

In the East, only two matches survived and a penalty by fly half George Jenkins gave Builth Wells a 3-0 win over Llantwit Fardre to stay second. Merthyr hit back from 9-0 down to score 17 second-half points and defeat Hirwaun as No 8 Jason Price went over with a penalty try and Wayne Booth and

Grant Davies kicked conversions and Booth placed a penalty, while Matthew Smith kicked three Hirwaun penalties.
