Centre Rhys Shorney bagged a brace as the Black and Ambers beat the Drovers 47-37. Both sides scored six tries, with 22 points from the boot of Dan
Griffiths proving the difference.

The talented Newport fly-half also scored a try in the entertaining match, and the win takes his side six points clear of Neath at the top of the table.

In the only other Premiership match played yesterday, Newbridge’s hopes of avoiding relegation were hit by an unlucky 24-25 loss at home to Caerphilly.

Newbridge out-scored the visitors four tries to three, but four goals from fly-half Stuart Thomas edged his side ahead at the final whistle.

Meanwhile Swansea earned a Konica Minolta Cup quarter-final tie against Caerphilly by beating Ebbw Vale 42-34 in their rescheduled sixth-round match yesterday.
