Swansea play in bursts, normally being hot in the opening half, but this time they were on fire after the interval and only just failed to catch Pontypridd, for whom Matthew Nuthall scored a brace of tries and young David Flanagan kicked 15 points. Swansea’s late burst included a try by Wales lock Gareth Llewellyn – his first for Swansea.

Newport finished with their 27th win in 30 matches and their four tries at Aberavon took them to 142 for the season, though top scorer Dan Griffiths was not playing.

Aberavon fly half Jamie Davies scored a try and kicked 16 points to go over 300 for the season and pass 2,000 league points in his young career.
