Members of the Wales under-21 team in Scotland competing in the IRB Under 21 World Championship have helped make today a very special birthday for a resident of a Fife town.

John Eddie Jones from Dunfermline is celebrating his 100th birthday today and his GP, Doctor Mike Proudfoot, who has been a match doctor during the world championship, knew what would make the perfect birthday gift.

“Eddie is a Welshman with a real love for rugby and during his youth he played rugby for Welsh Railways. I thought it would be an extra touch for his special day if I could get him something from the Welsh team.”

Mike contacted Scottish Rugby and with the help of Welsh team liaison officer, John McHarg, was able to get a signed ball from the Wales under-21 team and a tie.

“I’d like to thank the Welsh team and Scottish Rugby for all their help in adding to Eddie’s 100th birthday celebrations,” added Dr Proudfoot.
