Wales lost their chance of playing in the semi-finals when they fell to England by 23-14 at Raeburn Place on Friday and will now return to the same venue to meet France on Wednesday in a battle for the lower places.

Despite leading at half-time through a hat-trick of penalty goals by fly half Nick Macleod, Wales could not break clear and England gained two tries before full back Ricky Williams sent wing Matthew Nuthall over in the corner.

However, England, leading at 16-14, clinched a victory when wing Adrian Garvey scored their third try that was converted by fly half Adrian Jarvis.

The semi-finals will be contested with New Zealand meeting South Africa and Australia opposing Ireland.
