Mefin Turns Down French Offer

Welsh international Mefin Davies has turned down an attractive offer from French giants Stade Francais to keep his Welsh dream alive.
The 15st hooker has been looking for a new club since the sudden collapse of the Warriors last month.
But despite a two-year deal with French champions Stade on the table, 31-year-old Davies snubbed the offer because it would have spelt the end of his international career.
The Parisian outfit would not have allowed Davies to combine club duties with adding to his 21 caps for his country.
Davies’ decision still leaves his rugby future in doubt as despite being first choice for Wales’ summer tours to Argentina and South Africa, none of the four remaining regions have shown any interest in the 5’10” international, and Wales coach Mike Ruddock is unlikely to pick a player not at the highest level – meaning Davies could be left out in the cold altogether.
If the former Warriors man had swapped Wales for life in Paris, he would have joined the growing ranks of high-profile Welsh stars already plying their trade in France. Threequarters Gareth Thomas is now with Heineken Cup finalists Toulouse, Fly-half Stephen Jones has left Llanelli for Montferrand while Gareth Llewellyn, the most capped player in Welsh history, has agreed a deal with Narbonne – after talking the club into allowing him to continue his test career.
