Shortly after kick-off, East hooker Megan Snape, put the first five points on the board. Fifteen minutes later, she was driven over the line again to double the points and take the score to 10-0.
East dominated the first half and threatened several times from both the back and forward quarters, with two unfortunate knock-ons letting tries go begging.
The half-time break allowed North to regroup and come back out with a second wind. Mared Evans capitalised on an East infringement to put North’s 3 points on the board and narrow the gap to 10-3.
Eager to maintain their lead, East had another near miss when number 8 Kim Parry, picked up at the back of the scrum and combined with Rhian Bowden to put Cassie Lyons into space. Tough tackling by a scrambled North defence prevented the try on the 5 yard line.
Try number three came just a few minutes later through another Kim Parry pick-up and drive. Not content to let the pack have all the spoils, Sophie Wilkinson crossed the line on the 50 minute mark to extend East’s lead to 20-3.
In the dying minutes, Megan Snape snatched her hat-trick from close range, allowing Hannah Szigetvari to convert and bring the final score at 27-3.
The successful preliminary squad of 33 will be announced later this week. They will train under the guidance of Gareth Mahoney, Liza Burgess and Lee Grant in an attempt to win a place on the 24-strong squad to tour
