Five people will be chosen at random to take part in a money-can’t-buy training session with Paul Thorburn, former Wales international and world record holding goal kicker, on March 16th to hone their kicking skills at the Welsh Institute of Sport. Thorburn will pick the best kicker out of the five who will then go on to kick for £50k in front of a capacity crowd at Wales’ final RBS Six Nations match against Ireland at the Millennium Stadium on March 19th.
“We are delighted that our Team sponsor Brains has given one lucky winner the opportunity to step onto the hallowed turf, for what could be a life changing experience,” added Paul Thorburn.
The kicker will be a guest of Brains during the match and during half time will attempt the 50 metre kick. In the event of a miss, the kicker will be given the chance to kick from 40m, then 30m then 20m then 10m. If they land the kick from 50m they will win the top prize of £50k, from 40m they’ll receive £25K, a 30m kick will get the lucky winner £10k, a 20m kick £5k and a 10m kick £1k.
According to Brains’ marketing manager, Stewart Dobson, this is an opportunity of a lifetime to perform at the Millennium Stadium: “I imagine that it’s every Welshman’s dream to perform at the Stadium and I think it’ll be a just bonus for the winner if they do manage to kick the ball from 50 metres between the two posts and win the £50,000 prize.
“In addition to the thrill of running out in front of a capacity crowd they’ll also have the opportunity of a lifetime to hone their skills with one of Wales’ greatest goal kickers at the Welsh Institute of Sport.”
If you believe you’ve got the strength and skill to succeed or just want to soak up the atmosphere at Wales Millennium Stadium and hope for the best, text the word KICK3 to 64646 before midnight on March 4th 2005. Finalists will be notified by March 11th 2005.
