NEW DEALS GIVE WRU PLENTY TO CELEBRATE WITH
The Welsh Whisky Company’s highly regarded Penderyn Whisky has become the “Official Whisky of the WRU”, while the Pembrokeshire-based Prince’s Gate Spring Water has become the “Official Water Supplier to the WRU”.
It means that fans will be spoilt for choice when it comes to celebrating their sides successes in the 2005 RBS Six Nations Championship, especially as the Welsh team’s shirt sponsor is the renowned Cardiff-brewer, Brains.
The toast will certainly be Welsh rugby if Michael Owen’s side can clinch a first Grand Slam since 1978 when they meet Ireland on Saturday at the Millennium Stadium.
And the new deals mean that fans will have something very special to drink when they reach for a tipple to celebrate.
The WRU have signed a two year deal with the Welsh whisky company, Penderyn, that will see them become ‘The Official Whisky of the WRU’. The five figure deal will see Penderyn produce 1250 special bottles of whisky to help celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the Welsh Rugby Union next year. Each bottle in the limited edition range will come in a special celebration case and will sell at £125.
The Penderyn whisky distillery was built in 1999 and a unique distilling process was introduced that produces an exceptionally smooth spirit that is then stored in old Bourbon casks and finished in Madeira barriques to bring out its full taste and golden colour.
“With the current success we are all enjoying on the field, we are experiencing a huge amount of interest from within the commercial market. The great thing about the deal with Penderyn Whisky is that we now have a range of products with which to celebrate our current success, and of course to toast our anniversary celebrations next season” said Paul Thorburn, WRU Special Projects Manager.
“The deal with Prince’s Gate Spring Water is vitally important to Welsh rugby because as a part of their package they will be supplying water to the national side and all our age group teams. They shipped water to Scotland for the side last weekend and will be involved in the Grand Slam game on Saturday.”
Prince’s Gate Spring Water is an internationally renowned supplier of still, sparkling and flavoured bottled water. A market leader and industry trend setter, the range of products is supplied to major supermarket chains such as Sainsbury’s, Safeway’s and Somerfield, as well as a number of major airlines.
The family run company is based in Narberth and the products produced in Pembrokeshire are internationally acclaimed.
Once again, the two year deal with the WRU is worth a five figure sum to Welsh rugby and will ensure that the team have a little taste of home wherever they are playing.
