OSPREYS JUST A WIN AWAY

The champions in waiting ran in four tries in the 30-0 demolition with Jason Spice scoring two and Shaun Connor kicking 10 points.

The race for the title will run for at least one more week as Munster kept their title hopes alive with victory over Ulster. The Munster men ran out
21-15 winners in Cork with a late Paul Burke penalty – his third of the night – securing the win after the sides had shared four tries. The Ospreys are now 13 points clear and a win next Saturday against Edinburgh will see them crowned champions.

On Sunday Leinster completed the double over Irish rivals Connacht at the Sportsground – but only just – scoring a 26-21 win thanks to 16 points from the boot of kiwi fly half Dave Holwell, and tries from Victor Costello and Felipe Contepomi.

The remaining two games on Sunday both had a bearing on next season’s Heineken Cup qualification, with Llanelli Scarlets coming close to ensuring their place in the European competition at the expense of the Cardiff Blues. The Scarlets scored a 25-13 victory at Stradey thanks to three tries from the pack with Phil John, Andy Powell and Vernon Cooper all crossing.
Llanelli Scarlets are now 14 points clear of The Blues who only have a maximum of 15 points left to play for this season.

Finally at Murrayfield Edinburgh’s 31-18 victory over the Borders, with a virtuoso performance by the boot of Brendan Laney and a brace of tries from back rower David Callam, ensured the capital city’s spot in Europe next season. They and Glasgow will be the two Scottish representatives in the Heineken Cup; The Borders’ loss also denying them a spot in the end of season Celtic Cup.
