Wales Development downed by England Academy
Under the fresh Swansea sun, Wales were certainly in contention for the first 10 minutes, creating several opportunities and pressuring the England defence. The visitors stamped their authority after 13 minutes with a try from the outstanding flanker, Jane Leonard, following a sniping run by Amber Penrith. Alice Richardson converted.
Wales stepped up their defence with some notable tackling from Claire Mattey and Philippa Tuttiet. This held off the constant English attack, until a penalty try decision was awarded midway through the half. The visitors added a further 14 points shortly before half-time through Heather Fisher and Ellen Small tries and Alice Richardson’s conversions. Jane Leonard ran in a further three tries during the second half, with Natasha Fitt crossing for one.
Wales Development now look forward to a fixture against a touring South Africa side at UWIC on Tuesday 26th April.
