Jones was replaced in the second half of the 77-3 victory over the American Eagles last weekend after taking a slight knock, but is responding well to treatment.

“There’ll be a big emphasis on recovery for the players this week. We’ll only be having light training sessions,” said Wales coach Mike Ruddock. “A number of players lost quite a bit of weight in the heat last Saturday, but most are in good shape and we are ready to focus on the Test against the Canadians.

“We know it’s going to be a tougher test for us because the Canadians have beaten the Americans in their last three or four games.

“We’re monitoring Ryan and our two other injured players, Mefin Davies and Craig Morgan, on a day by day basis. As much as we want to win both our games, we need to come back from this tour with some new combinations and having got an insight into how people are progressing.

“There will be some changes for Saturday.”

Gloucester hooker Davies is still trying to overcome the back injury he sustained in training, while Blues wing Morgan is struggling with an arm injury. Ruddock blooded two new hookers against the Eagles, Matthew Rees and Rhys Thomas, and could be forced to give Morgan’s Blues team mate Chris Czekaj his first cap at the weekend.

Ruddock is due to name his side on Wednesday.
