Coach Gafyn Cooper’s targeted the game as a must-win affair to stay clear of the relegation zone, and Offside obliged to cement Tredegar’s position at the bottom of the table.

Elsewhere, Newport Saracens made it six from six with a 25-10 win over Abercynon, but Llantwit Fardre’s 27-8 victory at home to Llantrisant kept them at the top on try count.

Division 3 East is one of the tightest leagues in Wales. Five teams are locked together at the top on 15 points, with a further four tied for sixth place on 12 points.

Of the five-front-runners, Abergavenny have played the fewest matches and continued their fine season with an impressive 25-6 win at fellow leaders Pontypool United.

Llanishen are in the mix after a 32-23 over Senghenydd, while cellar dwellers Pontllanfraith and Risca are still looking for their first win of the season. Pontllanfraith were edged 19-14 by Blaina and Risca crashed 20-0 at home to Cwmbran.

Nelson outside-half Ryan Jones bagged two tries and kicked three conversions as his side sneaked home 26-23 against Old Illtydians.

Division 4 East front-runners Newport HSOB, Garndiffaith and St Peters all recorded home wins on Saturday, with St Peters’ 25-0 shutout of Nantyglo being the most impressive. Newport centre Rob Suffield and replacement lock Alan Morris scored two tries apiece for their club.

Oakdale saw their chances of a first win vanish at home to Talywain, who returned to their clubrooms with a 31-19 victory.

Taffs Well’s unbeaten start to the season in Division 4 South East came to a crashing end when they were beaten 16-13 at home to Cilfynydd.

Bettws and Machen remain unbeaten in Division 5 East, the former scoring a 27-3 home victory over struggling Llanhilleth thanks to a try double from No 8 Dai Maughan, and Machen edging Abertillery 13-7 away. RTB Ebbw Vale’s losing streak is now eight after Caldicot secured their first victory of the season – a 19-10 win away.
