PRINCIPALITY PREMIERSHIP ROUND UP
Not only that, they did it seven times as they put the previously unbeaten league leaders to the sword to emerge 45-0 winners at The Gnoll. Former Wales U21 wing Richard Johnston ran in two and there were also tries for player-coach Patrick Horgan and former Wales outside half Aled Thomas. Outside half James Hook also grabbed a try and added five conversions for a match haul of 15 points.
Former Champions Newport also lost their unbeaten record as they were hammered 39-7 at Aberavon. The prolific Jamie Davies was the home hero as he kicked nine penalties and converted one of the two tries to bag 29 points. The Wizards were in command 22-7 at the interval and not even a try and conversion by the Wales Under 21 half-back pair of James Ireland and Aled Thomas could spark Newport.
With the Gwent duo of Cross Keys and Newport slipping up, Pontypridd moved to the top of the table as they made it five out of five with an 18-6 win at Llandovery. Outside half Dai Flanagan kicked two penal.ties and converted one of the two tries, one of which came from ex-Wales back row man Dale McIntosh.
Bridgend are the only other unbeaten club, thanks to an Adam Whitney try and three peanlties from Gareth David in their 14-13 win at Pontypool.
At the other end of the table, last season’s Division One Champions Maesteg finally got a win as they beat Ebbw Vale 25-19 with two tries from Andrew Hutchins.
