“I am very excited to be here in Wales and look forward to putting on the Cardiff Blues shirt,” he told assembled reporters at the Arms Park. My first challenge is to break into the 22. There are alot of excellent players here, I dont expect to walk into the team.
“I have to learn the patterns of the team, and the way they do things here before I can start thinking about my first match. Im the new boy here,” he said modestly. “And I expect to have to earn the right for my place.
“It’s been like that in every team I have allways played for.”
Lomu said he wasnt setting targets for silverware this season, but instead focusing on the immediate challenges at hand
“At the moment im just taknig things one step at a time, first had to learn to walk again, and then had to learn how to run. Now it is a case of me trying my very best each day at training, and I am aiming to make the 22, from there who knows. I’m very pleased to be here and look forward to the chance of playing against the best players in European rugby.”
Lomu will be eligible to play from December 1st and the Blues have two home games that month, versus Calvisano in the Heineken Cup on Saturday the 17th of December and the Newport Gwent Dragons on Tuesday the 27th of December.
It has also been announced that Andy Powell, the Cardiff Blues back row forward has been invited to join the Wales training squad by Coach, Mike Ruddock ahead of the Wales v South Africa game on Saturday.
