“Drew has always had something and he’s always had that something different,” Jones told scrum.com. “We had two games against New Zealand A in June and two players clearly stood out. One was Drew Mitchell.
Despite his sensational form, Jones believes the best is yet to come from Mitchell. “He has just got that ability to sniff a try. At the moment there is he and Habana in world rugby. If you give them half an opportunity to score a try they get there,” he declared. “Drew just has that unique bit of talent. He has still got some way to go in terms of his development but he has got that ability to score tries.”
The Wallabies will be seeking to end their European Tour in style at Cardiff, with Jones naming Welsh skipper Gareth Thomas as the player Australia has to watch. “Thomas is an inspirational player for Wales, and they generally play off the back of one of his runs,” said Jones. “Thomas has been improving as a player over the last three years and if he is not the most improved player in the world he is certainly close to it.”
