WALES HEROES SHIRT APPEAL

Williams swapped his match-day shirt with Wallaby back rower Phil Waugh and it is this shirt that has been taken from amongst Williams’ possessions.

The Cardiff Blues, British Lions and Wales Grand Slam star has already donated the match shirt he wore against Fiji, in the other Invesco Perpetual Series victory, to a charity close to his heart. The Velindre cancer hospital cared for William’s mother before her recent death and his team-mates have already helped him in donating over £3,000 to the cause.

Charvis, whose man-of-the-match performance against the Aussies helped Wales gain their first home victory against the Southern Hemisphere superpower in 24 years, also had his black centenary match shirt stolen.  This shirt is unique, carries the players’ name on the back and is embroidered with the individual cap number – 80 in this case.

“We are appealing to the better natures of whoever has stolen or found these items to return them to us at the WRU Indoor Arena, Vale of Glamorgan Hotel in Hensol,” said Charvis.

“Martyn has lost his only real momento of victory during the series, after donating his Fiji shirt in memory of his mother, and it is the first time either of us have beaten Australia.

“Apart from the bruises, the aches and pains and maybe a couple of scars the shirts are the only thing a player can keep to remind him of great days like this.

“It was the first time either of us have ever beaten Australia and I’m sure that when whoever has stolen the shirts realises what they mean to us, they will be returned.”

The shirts were stolen from the Wales team headquarters on Sunday morning, following Wales’ 24-22 victory over Australia.  Anyone who finds them can return them anonymously to the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel or call 01443 238 255 if you have any further information.
