KONICA MINOLTA CUP PREVIEW
All 16 top flight outfits are in action but all eyes will be on two fixtures in particular as Ebbw Vale and Neath travel to face Heol y Cyw and Taffs Well respectively.
Four South East’s Taffs Well welcome Premiership Champions Neath to Maes Gwyn after dispatching Five South East’s Rhiwbina 34-27 in Round Two. Taffs Well started the season in fine form, notching six straight victories to rocket to the top of Division Four South-East. And although a recent dip in form has resulted in three losses in as many weeks, what better way to get the season back on track than with the scalp of the Welsh All Blacks?
Heol y Cyw, of Four South West, play host to Ebbw Vale in what could provide an excellent centre piece to their Centenary celebrations. Heol y Cyw have enjoyed a fine cup run thus far, beating Trimsaran and Denbigh to set up the game of the season against the Steelmen.
Sitting third in Division Four South West, Heol y Cyw look like strong contenders for promotion and the visit of a side of the calibre of Ebbw Vale will be a chance to raise their game and send a warning to their league rivals.
There are three all-Premiership ties, with Carmarthen Quins fronting up to Pontypool, Cross Keys meeting Bedwas and Llandovery going head to head with Llanelli.
Elsewhere, Aberavon welcome Division One’s Fleur de Lys to the Talbot Athletic Ground while Caerphilly make the short journey to the Brewery Field to front up to Bridgend.
Two West’s Corus host Premiership neighbours Swansea, while Three West’s Laugharne welcome Cardiff.
Division One’s Beddau travel to Rodney Parade for their clash with Newport, Maesteg host Kenfig Hill of Three South West and Pontypridd travel to Two West’s Pontyberem.
The pick of the day’s other fixtures pits Welsh Districts side Bryncethin Sports against Division One’s Caerphilly and Five South West’s Glyncorrwg against Three West’s Penclawdd.
