In Division Three East, leaders Abergavenny are hot favourites for the title after despatching nearest rivals Senghenydd 64-12 in a 10-try romp. Abergavenny are now six points clear and will take a power of beating this season. Cellar dwellers Risca are still chasing their first points of the season after an agonising 15-11 loss at home to Nelson.
The top two sides in Division Four East played off on Saturday, with Gardiffaith using their home advantage to sneak home 13-12 against St Peters. Lock Ben Dillon and centre Stuart Davies scored the vital tries for the winners. Newport HSOB are poised in third place after try doubles from centre Robert Suffield and No 8 Mike Pugsley secured a 31-21 win over Crumlin. At the other end of the table, Oakdale outside-half Kevin Rees scored a brace of tries as his club beat Nantyglo 20-10 for their first win of the season. Oakdale skipper Simon Barber added a try and two crucial goals.
In Division Four South-East, leaders Penarth crashed back to earth with an embarrassing 42-5 home loss to Taffs Well. The surprise result gave Penallta – 23-15 winners at Cowbridge – the chance to draw level at the top of the table. Taffs Well are lying fourth, but will have plenty to say as the title race hots up.
Llanhilleth scrum-half Mark Perrott scored the only try of the match in his side’s 7-0 Division Five East win at fellow strugglers Caldicot, while unbeaten table-toppers Machen returned from Gwernyfed with a 20-14 victory.
Porth look to have the Division Five South-East title in the bag after moving nine points on Saturday. Porth beat third-placed Bridgend Sports 16-6 and only Cefn Coed – 53-0 victors over bottom-placed Ogmore Vale – look to have the squad to challenge the runaway leaders for the title. In a bad day for Penarth teams, Old Penarthians lost 39-0 at home to Rhiwbina.
