Llanelli Wanderers, Llagefni and Trimsaran all failed to make the most of Penclawdd’s involvement in the cup by failing to reduce their commanding lead at the top of the table. Second-placed Trimsaran went down 30-11 at Laugharne, Llanelli Wanderers went down at Haverfordwest while Llangefni were held to a 9-9 draw at Newcastle Emlyn. Bottom club Hendy crashed to their 13th successive league defeat at Tumble.
Cwmavon took top place in Division Three South-West with a home win over fourth-placed Aberavon Quins. Cwmavon ran out 27-8 winners to overtake leaders Tonna who were involved in the cup. Nantyfyllon followed into second place with their 20-15 win at Resolven though Tonna now have three games in hand over the new leaders. There was also a change at the other end of the table where Brynamman moved off the bottom with a 30-21 success at Alltwen.
There was little movement in Division Four West where top side Pontaddulais remain five points clear after an emphatic 24-0 win at Cefneithen. Crymych rattled up the weekend’s biggest score in the division with their 46-5 thrashing of bottom side Llandybie.
However Division Four South-West was thrown wide open after Morriston crashed to a shock 19-9 home defeat to Trebanos. Heol y Cyw are now only three points behind, with two games in hand, after their 33-18 win at Briton Ferry who are now in a four-club tie at the bottom after Aberavon Gree Stars c;clinched a vital 22-14 win at fellow strugglers Abercrave.
