SCARLETS REVEAL STRADEY PARK PLANS

Following the announcement made earlier this year that the Scarlets are seeking to secure a viable financial future for the club by selling the existing site and building a new state of the art stadium with increased revenue generating capacity, outline plans have been put together for the redevelopment of Stradey and will be submitted to Carmarthenshire County Council on Monday 9 January 2006.

The exciting new plans will hope to see parts of the existing pitch, its memories, victories and defeats preserved as part of a public recreational area, plus a mix of 400 residential units carefully designed to meet local needs in terms of mix and balance of house types, sizes and affordability.  The submission of the plans to the council will herald the start of a consultation process, ending in March 06, which will allow anyone with queries or concerns to voice these and seek answers prior to a final decision being made.

To make this process easier a series of open days are being scheduled for the New Year, starting with a dedicated exhibition for local residents. The days will allow the public to view the plans and ask questions, details of which will be found on www.scarlets.co.uk plus outline drawings of the proposed redevelopment. Further details of the full planning application will be found at www.Carmarthenshire.gov.uk in mid January onwards. Anyone with queries or concerns can email these directly through to enquiries@scarlets.co.uk.

Stuart Gallacher, Chief Executive, Scarlets said: “This is an exciting time in the history of the Scarlets as we venture into our future and the future of Llanelli as a region of regeneration and growth.

“We are submitting the proposed plans as early as possible to ensure that we are allowing all who the redevelopment may affect the maximum time in which to look over the proposal and seek answers to any queries they may have. The Club are committed to being open and transparent with information and will continue to communicate with all concerned parties as new information comes to light.

“Stradey Park has been our much loved home for more than 100 years and has witnessed some of the most famous games in Welsh club rugby history.  These important memories will continue to be recalled with pride and will have a prominent place in our proposed new home. But we cannot live in the past.  We have to look forward to our future, step-up to challenges and competition of the modern era of rugby and make decisions that will secure rugby for future generations to enjoy. This is not about erasing our heritage – far from it; it is about ensuring the Scarlets’ success, fame and passion lives on.”
