Indeed should Munster leave Murrayfield pointless they could finish the weekend in only third place as Leinster will be looking to maximize on their victory over the Munstermen last weekend when they face Llanelli Scarlets. The Scarlets have had something of a revival in recent weeks, losing just one of their last six games in all competitions and skipper Simon Easterby will be hoping to stop Leinster – and his brother Guy – from moving into second place.
After their win over Ulster last time out bottom side Connacht will want to close the gap to 10th placed Ospreys, (who are guaranteed four points from a ‘free weekend’) when they face Newport Gwent Dragons on Friday night. However they have yet to win away in the league this season, and victory for the Dragons would help them close further on Cardiff Blues who travel to the Border Reivers on Sunday.
The fifth game of the round will see Ulster trying to forget a miserable festive period which saw defeat to Leinster and Connacht when they face Glasgow Warriors at Ravenhill. Should Ulster slip to third straight defeat they could be joined on 31 points by the Warriors – although the Scottish side haven’t won away from home since last April.
Also look out for David Humphreys to set a new Celtic League career points record should he score seven to pass Gavin Henson’s current mark of 503
