WRU PRESS RELEASE – POWERGEN CUP SEMI-FINALS

Regarding the situation of the Scarlets’ current International players and the Welsh region’s semi-final, Wales coach Mike Ruddock said: “As things stand, we have an agreement between the Wales Team management and the four Welsh regions whereby on any weekend prior to a Wales international, the Welsh based players selected within the starting XV for Wales will stand down for their region.

“Our match against Ireland on February 26 is occupying our thoughts entirely at the moment and, given our current injury and availability problems, it is difficult to envisage going outside of the agreement without risking putting Wales in serious jeopardy for the remainder of the RBS Six Nations.

“However, there is a potential for players to return to international action following injuries and suspensions and what we will do is promise to review the agreement as soon as possible after that game against Ireland.”
