CALZAGHE RALLYING CALL FOR MILLENNIUM STADIUM HOMECOMING

Joe Calzaghe today issued a rallying call to fellow Welshmen to snap up the 25,000 tickets available for his WBO/IBF Super-Middleweight title defence at the Millennium Stadium on 8th July –  and make his dreams come true.

Wales’ greatest ever boxer returns to the scene of his professional debut and heads up an impressive undercard of seven title fights, including the Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship bout between Danny Williams and Matt Skelton, a WBU World Cruiserweight fight featuring compatriot Enzo Maccarinelli and an appearance from 2004 Olympic Silver Medalist Amir Khan.

The Calzaghe homecoming is set to attract a massive crowd of 25,000 fans, but the Millennium Stadium’s versatility also allows for an increase in capacity if tickets sell fast.

The Newbridge born World Champion, following his sensational win over Jeff Lacy in March to unify the WBO/IBF titles, is looking forward to appearing at his home venue and following in the footsteps of some of the biggest stars in the world of sport and entertainment.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to fight at the Millennium Stadium since it’s been built,” said Calzaghe, who made his profession boxing bow 13 years ago at Cardiff Arms Park, beating England’s Joe Mason in the first round on the undercard of the World heavyweight title fight bill featuring Lennox Lewis and Frank Bruno.

“To have seven genuine title fights on the cards means it will be a tremendous night and a huge show in British sport.

“We all like the big stage, and not many boxers will be able to say they’ve fought in front of 25,000 people at the Millennium Stadium.”
Tickets are now on sale for Calzaghe’s WBO/IBF World Super-Middleweight Millennium Stadium title defence and the event is set to be
one of the biggest boxing shows ever held in Britain.

Calzaghe takes centre stage and features as main event on a fantastic seven-title card that includes:

The Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship: Danny Williams vs. Matt Skelton
The WBU World Cruiserweight Championship: Enzo Maccarinelli
The WBU World Middleweight Championship: Gary Lockett vs. Ryan Rhodes
The Commonwealth Light-Middleweight Championship: Bradley Pryce
The Celtic Welterweight Championship: Tony Doherty vs. Taz Jones

And if that is not enough, boxing fans are in for a real treat as Olympic Silver Medallist Amir Khan, the hottest prospect in world boxing, features as special attraction.

A full supporting undercard includes Welsh boxing’s hottest young talents: Barrie Jones, Gave Rees, Kerry Hope and Nathan Cleverley.
Tickets are priced at: £30, £40, £50, £75, £100, £150, £200, £300 and are available from:
