Maccarinelli, 25, knows that it will take some strength to knock Dominguez down but is confident that with a little help from new trainer, Enzo Calzaghe, he can win hands down.
“When my old trainer retired there was only one trainer I wanted to go with,” Maccarinelli said. “I’m an attack minded fighter and Enzo’s an attack minded trainer. We knew each other’s styles. Now I’m feeling better and sharper than ever before.
“This is the first time in my life I’m not going into a fight to knock a guy out. Dominguez’s someone I’d pay to watch – he’s a tough nut of a guy and it would a take a sledgehammer to do that – so I’m looking to break him down.
“If it takes 12 rounds then I’m ready for it.”
Enzo Calzaghe, father of Welsh super middleweight hero Joe Calzaghe, feels strongly about the importance of winning in all his fighters and has backed Swansea slugger Maccarinelli for glory.
“The only goal is to win and I don’t care how you do it,” said the Newbridge-based trainer.
“There’s only one thing that counts when you get in that ring and that’s victory”
Maccarinelli admits he looks up to WBO and IBF super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe after becoming stable partners.
Maccarinelli said: “Listening to Joe talking and he has had defining fights and thats what I want to be”
