Llantwit Fardre also began the season on the right foot with their 26-0 win over Tredegar at Cae Fardre. Dean Thomas and Geraint George scored their tries, both converted by Rob Koytla who added four penalties to leave coach Steve Goddard a happy man on day one.
Jonathan Gough proved a match-winner with the boot for Ynysybwl at Mountain Ash, kicking four penalties in his team’s narrow 12-8 win. Rhydyfelin also claimed an impressive away win, 31-17 at Abergavenny while Glen Holloway scored twice at Llantrisant saw off Nantymoel 34-10 at Cefn Mably.
New Tredegar staged a late comeback to draw with 14-man Pontypool United who had John Tibbs sent off for butting in their Division Three clash. Andrew Henderson and Dewi Winstone both went over in the final ten minutes and Alex Davies converted to square the game at 14-14 while Steve Lang’s three penalties were enough for Rhymney to beat Brynithel 9-6.
Tonyrefail wracked up a 50-17 win at Pentyrch in Division Three (South-east) while Penarth scored four tries in a hugely impressive 29-5 at much-fancied Porth Harlequins in Division Four (south-east).
