ADSA League Divsion one round up
Elsom returned to the coaching fold at the Quins after a break of two years in the summer and found the squad decimated after relegation from the Premiership.
matters didn’t improve when the Quins lost their opening game at Whitland, but since then there has been a steady upward curve.
The 29-10 home win over Narberth at the weekend featured 19 points from the boot of outside half Mark Jones, but Elsom was more impressed by the way in which his side opened.
“We were 16-0 up at the interval and we showed out intent in that period. The only aim this season is to get back into the Premiership and this result shows we’ve got what it takes to bounce straight back,” said Elsom.
“I always felt we would meet the best four teams in the division in the first month and that our results against them would show us what would be required to go up. Now we know we are right up there with the best and can get back up – with a lot of hard work.”
Bridgend Athletic remained at the top of the table thanks to an injury time drop goal from Steve Lewis and an even later penalty from Staurat Morris. Those late strikes allowed them to overcome Loughor 21-17 at home after trailing 11-10 at the break and 17-15 with time running out.
Cwmllynfell moved into second place with a thumping 42-16 win at Builth Wells that included five tries and 17 points from the boot of full back Peter Thomas, while Whitland ran in four tries in their 27-13 home win over Waunarlwydd.
In ASDA league One East, the students of Uwic retained their 100 per cent record but not before they were given a thorough examination by bottom of the table Blackwood.
The Gwent side kept in touch throughout and were desperately unlucky to lose out in a game of six penalties. Scott Sneddon kicked four for the league leaders, while Jeremy Lloyd landed two for the visitors.
Beddau recorded an important victory over Newbridge to move into second place with their fourth win out of five. The scores were tied at 3-3 at the interval, but a Dan Meredith try and two more penalties from Steve Robinson were just enough to give the home side the verdict 14-10.
After weeks of frustration, Llanharan hit their straps to record their first win of the season with a 12 try, 80-8 hammering of Abercynon. Full back Arwel Davies ran in a hat-trick of tries and Ross Pearce converted seven of the tries and kicked a penalty for a match tally of 17 points.
