Wales U19 grab late consolation in France
Justin Burnell’s Wales U19 side were hoping to build on their impressive home win over the Ireland U19 last weekend, but found themselves 24-9 adrift at half-time having conceded three tries.
The only consolation was a dogged rearguard performance from Josh Turnbull and his pack in the second half and an injury time try for replacement centre Gareth Owen. That try was converted by Leigh Halfpenny, who kicked three penalties in the first half and a fourth in the second.
Next up, Wales U19 continue their preparartion for the IRB U19 World Championships by facing England U19 at Aberavon this coming Friday. That represents their last chance to play together before departing for Belfast and the tournament proper in April.
