Scarlets come out ahead in derby
The Scarlets increased their unbeaten run at Stradey Park to fourteen months with a bonus point win over the Dragons that will keep confidence high one week ahead of their Heineken cup clash with Munster.
After dominating the opening period, the Scarlets found themselves just four points to the good at the end of the first half. Cieron Thomas scored all the home side’s points with a try, conversion and penalty but Ceri Sweeney kept the visitors in touch with two penalty goals.
However Phil Davies’s half-time team talk did the trick and a second half onslaught was enough to slay the Dragons. The bonus point victory for the Scarlets means they are still in the race for the title and have five of their six remaining games at home.
“We’ve been building momentum slowly for the last few weeks and I’m delighted with that result,” said Scarlets Coach Phil Davies. “We had the balance right in bringing back a few of our international players, we had the consistency in selection and were able to create and take our opportunities. There was no eye on next week. We have the utmost respect for the Dragons and knew we had to perform.”
