Surf’s up for Wales in Oz
The Wales and Cardiff hooker is a snowboarder by preference but has ridden the waves in Southern Down, Ogmore by sea, from a young age and he leapt at the chance to show his teammates what he could do down under.
“The boys took to it like ducks to water and we really enjoyed it,” said Williams.
“I’ve done a fair bit of snowboarding in my time and I’ve been out in the Gower quite a bit, which is a great place to surf, but getting up on some real authentic Aussie waves was an experience.
“Australia is the home of surfing so there was no better way to get a taste for life in the country before we got down to the hard work of rugby training.”
The squad received a course of surfing instruction in a bid to get over jet lag on arrival in Terrigal.
